Marcela Billig LPC-Associate Supervised by Dena Roberts, PhD, LPC-S

My goal as a counselor is to help people feel happy, courageous, and supported — so they can heal and live an awakened life. This is our work together!

I am joyful and eager about supporting others through the emotional phases of preconception, fertility, pregnancy, birth, parenthood — including all the ups and downs, anxieties, complications, and changes that come with this territory. My personal journey has included working through my own postpartum mood difficulties.

Beyond giving attention to the immediate goal of reducing negative symptoms, my approach also includes teaching clients how to examine their life experiences, emotional attachments, patterns, roles, relationships, feelings — and understand how all of those factors influence them so they are empowered to change. I help clients avoid making choices based on old, personal paradigms that do not serve them.  Together we explore the trajectory forward towards health, well-being and a more satisfactory and pleasurable life.

Prior to becoming a counselor, I spent two decades as a birth professional and massage therapist. As a birth doula, I attended hundreds of births in hospitals, homes, and birthing centers. As a postpartum doula, I helped many families during the first days, weeks and months after birth. During my 15 years as a childbirth educator, I also led classes and workshops about labor and delivery, postpartum adjustment, and parenting, and co-founded Conscious Birthing Austin with Lanell Coultas.

As a therapist, I am informed by attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, somatic psychology, mindfulness, polyvagal theory, and am currently training in EMDR therapy. Above all, I value the connection and relationship between me, the therapist and you, the client.

My training and education includes a master’s degree in counseling from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in transpersonal psychology from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. I love my life in Austin with my husband, one tween, one teen, one dog, and two cats.
