The only source of knowledge is experience.
Albert Einstein
Therapy, or counseling, is an art form. Education and practice are the foundation of skill building —– high caliber skills + in-depth knowledge = the art of change.
This is what I offer interns and licensed therapists who are ready to take their counseling skills to the next level.
My favorite question is “so what?”. As an academician, I highly value education. As a clinician, I highly value the application of education. Through the practice of applying education, we gain knowledge. Through the practice of applying knowledge, we gain skills. Therefore, education or knowledge are inconsequential if they cannot be directly applied to further the client’s needs. That is not to say that all education and knowledge aren’t useful, they are.
Cultivating a thorough education and a deep knowledge base is essential. Applying that education and knowledge in an appropriate way for each individual is the art of counseling. Mastering the art form of counseling takes time, trial and error, and lots of patience. Knowing when to apply what education or knowledge to which specific person is the cornerstone of mastery. To master this art form one must be flexible, curious, indefatigable, and rigorously self-reflective. These are the qualities I continually strive to embody. These are the qualities that I strive to inspire in all those who work with me.
I offer ongoing consultation groups, advance training program for clinical skills, and individual consultations. Please contact me for more information.
